History & Heritage
Aultbea is a small village on the shores of Loch Ewe. In the 19th century, Lord Zetland built a hunting lodge here, which later became part of the village’s local character and heritage. The community remained closely tied to fishing and rural Highland life, with a strong sense of resourcefulness and tradition.
Our Jam Jar Pub takes its name from this spirit of making do with what’s available, echoing the days when jam jars were repurposed as drinking glasses, a nod to both the lodge’s history and the village’s down-to-earth charm.
